Starting at the gym is intimidating enough without worrying about what to wear. The truth is: what you wear matters more than you think. Not for vanity - for performance, comfort, and confidence. Here is the complete guide.
T-shirt
Skip cotton. It absorbs sweat, gets heavy, and clings to your body. Look for moisture-wicking polyester or nylon blends. Fit should be comfortable - not skin tight, not baggy. A clean black performance t-shirt is the safest starting point.
Bottoms
Joggers or shorts - your choice depends on preference. Joggers offer more coverage and warmth, shorts offer more freedom. Either way, look for a tapered fit with stretch fabric. Avoid jeans, cargo pants, or anything with zippers that can scratch equipment.
Shoes
Flat-soled shoes for lifting. Running shoes for cardio. Do not wear sandals, boots, or dress shoes. If you can only buy one pair, cross-trainers are the most versatile option.
Cap (Optional but Recommended)
A gym cap keeps sweat out of your eyes and helps you focus. It also covers bad hair days - which you will have plenty of after training.
Here is what nobody tells beginners: when you feel good in what you are wearing, you train harder. You are more likely to go back. You are less self-conscious. Investing in a few quality pieces is investing in your consistency.

That is it. No need to overcomplicate it. Start with the essentials, train consistently, and upgrade as you go.
