Leg Day Outfits: What to Wear for Lower Body Training

Leg day demands more from your clothing than any other training day. Deep squats, heavy deadlifts, lunges, and leg press all test your gear to the limit. Here is what to wear.

Shorts vs Joggers

Shorts

The go-to choice for most leg day athletes. More freedom of movement, better ventilation, and you can actually see your quads working. Choose 5-inch for maximum freedom or 7-inch for a balance of coverage and mobility.

Joggers

Better for cold gyms and outdoor training. Look for joggers with four-way stretch fabric - you need full range of motion at the bottom of a squat. Tapered fit keeps the fabric from catching on equipment.

The Squat Test

Whatever you wear, it must pass the squat test:

  • Full depth squat without restriction
  • No fabric riding up or bunching
  • Waistband stays in place
  • Not see-through at any point

Footwear Matters Most

On leg day, shoes are more important than clothes. Flat, stable shoes for squats and deadlifts. Avoid running shoes - the cushioned heel shifts your weight forward during squats.

The Complete Leg Day Kit

  • Performance shorts or stretch joggers
  • Fitted performance t-shirt - not loose, it gets in the way during deadlifts
  • Flat training shoes
  • A cap - sweat management is critical during heavy compound lifts
  • Optional: knee sleeves for heavy squats

The Mindset

Leg day is where discipline lives. Anyone can train chest and arms. It takes a different breed to show up for squats every week. Dress like you mean it.
