It is one of the great gym debates: cap or beanie? Both have their fans, both have their place. But which one actually performs better during training? Let us break it down.
Cap wins. The brim channels sweat away from your face and eyes. A beanie absorbs sweat but eventually saturates - leaving you with a heavy, wet headpiece mid-workout.
Beanie wins for cold weather. Full head coverage retains heat better. But in a warm gym, a beanie can cause overheating. A cap provides coverage while allowing heat to escape from the top and back of your head.
Tie. Both keep hair out of your face. Beanies cover more hair, caps keep the top contained. Personal preference.
Cap wins for versatility. A structured premium cap works at the gym, on the street, at a cafe. A beanie works at the gym and during winter - that is about it.
Cap wins. After training, your hair is a mess. A cap hides it cleanly. A beanie gives you flat, sweaty beanie hair when you take it off.
For year-round training, a cap is the better choice. It handles sweat better, works in more settings, and looks sharper. Save the beanie for outdoor winter sessions.
Or combine both: the Catar Cottega Reflective Balaclava rolls up into a beanie and gives you the best of both worlds.
